Picking the Perfect Holiday Tree

Thanksgiving has come and goneand many have begun the process of bringing out decorations and preparing for selecting their holiday tree. I don’t know about your family, but each year we went out to pick a tree and after the decorating was complete my mom would say the same thing: “It’s the prettiest tree we’ve ever had.”

Tree farmer Charles Peltzer provides tips for selecting the perfect holiday tree. Here are just a couple of his thoughts:

Check the needles of a tree to make sure it is fresh. If it is a fir tree, the needles should snap like a fresh carrot. If it is pine, the needles should be very flexible.

Once a tree is selected, most people just have it strapped to the top of the car. This is bad for the tree because the wind will whip it. Tree farms love to see trees either in trunks or in cargo areas. If you must strap a tree to the top of the vehicle, ask to have it wrapped in netting and have it firmly secured.

One of the most famous Christmas trees has to be the one in Rockefeller Center, NY.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for November 28, 2007 from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Call 212-632-3975 for up to date information.
